Withdrawal from drugs such as Xanax, Klonopin (clonazepam), and Ambien is one of the most dangerous situations you or your family member can go through. People can, and do, die from withdrawal from these substances. It is essential that the patient do this with medical supervision - whether that is at ARCH, or somewhere else. Patients should NOT attempt this by themselves.
Benzodiazepine & Ambien Detoxification Program
Whether you take these drugs recreationally, or exactly as they are prescribed to you, it does not matter. These are addictive drugs and create both physical and mental dependence in those that use them. Patients often develop tolerance as well, meaning a higher dose of these medications is required to achieve the desired effect. This can be dangerous.
The most severe symptoms of withdrawal from medications like Xanax and Ambien include potentially fatal seizures. Much more common withdrawal symptoms are a large barrier to discontinuing the drugs. These symptoms include severe anxiety, irritability, sweating, sleep problems, and more. Going through withdrawal from these medications without assistance can cause an inability to function day-to-day, either at home or at work.
At ARCH, we use Flumazenil to treat the symptoms of withdrawal and work to reduce these symptoms to a minimum. Our patients are able to go through this withdrawal period with much less anxiety, and they begin to experience the promise of a day in recovery right from the beginning of their journey. Medical detoxification from benzodiazepines and Ambien-like drugs at ARCH is safe and effective. Our patients are able to go through withdrawal with the support of their friends and family - in addition to the medical professionals at ARCH who work with them to lay out what their goals are, a plan for how to get there and how to stay engaged in the process. Recovery is key and can be a lengthy process. Individualized counseling has been shown to give patients the best success during recovery.
